Canterbury wheelchair tennis player Ruben Harris adds another doubles title to 2023 tally at Knokke Junior Roller Open Grade A ITF event in Belgium

It has been a good start to 2023 for wheelchair tennis player Ruben Harris.

Harris, who trains at Canterbury Tennis Club and Whitstable Tennis Club, has won his first three doubles titles this year with partner Maximilian Taucher of Austria - the latest at the Knokke Junior Roller Open Grade A ITF event in Belgium over Easter.

They came through a Semi-Final against Belgium’s Alexander Lantermann and Ivar van Rijt, of the Netherlands, but it took tie-breaks to clinch the victory 6-4, 6-7, 10-8.

The duo then faced Xavier Donker, of the Netherlands, and Oscar Tarantino of Sweden where they delivered some fine tennis to take victory 6-3, 6-2.

March saw Harris and Taucher win in the Netherlands at the ITF Juniors Heuvelrug Wheelchair Event.

In the Semi-Finals, the pair defeated Tom de Boevere and Yun Kloosterman, both from the home country, 6-0, 6-0, before they edged past Xavier Donker and Van Rijt in the Final, winning on a match tie-break 10-4.

Harris also won the boys’ singles consolation Final, as he lost only one match across the three-day tournament.

The pair had started the year with victory in the Open-De-Hauts-De France Junior Grade A event.

They put in an impressive performance in the Final against Tarantino and Maylee Phelps, of the United States, to win the contest in straight sets 6-4, 6-1.

Harris also reached the Semi-Finals in the boys’ singles where he lost to Van Rijt.
