Canterbury Academy's MedwayTri member Oliver Scott shows potential with win at Eton Dorney Paratri Festival's Super Duper Sprint

Oliver Scott claimed a memorable win at the Eton Dorney Paratri Festival last weekend.

The 14-year-old Canterbury Academy pupil from Faversham only started triathlon in May last year, joining the MedwayTri team at the same time.

His win follows on from acceptance onto the confirmation pathway programme.

The programme means Scott has a mentor, education evening sessions on a vast range of topics, one-to-one training as and when it is needed, meet-up training days with others on the programme and training camps.

Confirmation is the first step into the UK Sport-funded World Class Performance Programme.

He will receive continued support and mentoring for the next two to four years. He gained his place on the academy through hard work and determination and a lot of help from MedwayTri club coach Liz Scott in the swim element.

Competing at Eton Dorney, he raced his first paratri-specific event, competing in the Super Duper Sprint, where he placed first to take the win with a 4min09sec swim for 200m, a 9.02 bike leg over 5km and covering the 1,500m run in 4.59.

The youngster, who is now starting his GCSEs, dreams of competing in the Paralympics, hopefully in Los Angeles in 2028, and, if not, then in Melbourne in 2032.
