Canadian women's rugby 7s fall to New Zealand in Hong Kong semis

Canada’s run at the Cathay/HSBC Hong Kong SVNS event ended Sunday with a 31–12 semifinal loss to the New Zealand women's national rugby sevens team. The Black Ferns went undefeated in the tournament, winning the Cup final with a 19-14 victory over Australia.

The Canadians then wrapped up the tournament falling 31–7 to France in the 3rd place playoff match. Charity Williams scored the lone try, with Olivia Apps adding the conversion.

Canada booked a ticket to the semifinal with a 19-7 victory over the U.S., after going 2-1 in pool play. The Canadians defeated Great Britain 41–7, and South Africa 31–0, before a narrow 19–17 loss to Australia.
