Canadian women rout Australia to claim 2nd win of wheelchair basketball worlds in Ottawa

Canada's women's wheelchair basketball team captured its second victory at world championships in Ottawa after demolishing Australia 79-30 at Carleton University on Thursday

Veteran Kady Dandeneau, of Pender Island, B.C., once again led the way, amassing game-highs with 33 points and six assists, adding 12 rebounds.

Arinn Young, a native of St. Albert, Alta., secured 14 rebounds and provided 20 points, as the veteran duo has powered Canada to a comfortable 2-0 start in the 12-country women's bracket.

The Canadian women started strong, hurrying to a 17-10 lead at the conclusion of the opening frame, which would prove to be the closest Australia would get in the lopsided contest.

Capping a dominant performance, Canada closed the fourth quarter on a 25-4 run.

Home court, high hopes as Canada's men and women chase wheelchair basketball world gold

Canada shot 51 per cent (36/70) from the field and 50 per cent (3/6) from beyond the arc.

On Wednesday, the women's team opened their world championship campaign with a 76-51 win over Spain at TD Place.

Next up, the Canadian women will take on China in TD Place at 3 p.m. on Saturday.

The Canadian men's team got off to a victorious start on Wednesday, beating Morocco 74-51. They next take the court at Carleton University against Germany at 12 p.m. ET on Friday.

This year's men's and women's competition is hosted in Ottawa.
