Canadian women remain unbeaten with sweep of France at World Sitting Volleyball Championships

Canada’s women are through to the quarterfinals at the World Sitting Volleyball Championships after another dominant performance.

The Canadians made quick work of France on Tuesday, sweeping their round-of-16 matchup 25-10, 25-12, and 25-14 in Hangzhou, China, to improve to 4-0 at the tournament.

The win sends the world No. 2 team into the quarterfinals, where it will face No. 9 Iran on Wednesday, July 15 at 3:30 a.m. ET with a spot in the final four on the line.

“I think overall we performed well,” Canada’s Anna Dunn said after the win. “We had some moments where we were a little bit lethargic and sluggish, but we came back into the game. I think we did a really good job bouncing back from uncharacteristic mistakes.

“It’s great that we have such an amazing group of girls and a fantastic support staff and coaches who pull us back in together,” Dunn added.

The Canadian men weren’t able to join the women in the quarterfinals.

Canada’s championship run came to an end in the round of 16 after a straight-set loss to the United States, falling 25-22, 25-16 and 25-23.

Even with the result, Canadian player Andrew Tucker felt the team showed plenty of positives.

“I thought we played really hard. We played as a unit with a lot of heart,” Tucker said.

“We came up short in a couple of the sets, but it’s a good stepping stone for moving forward. I think we have an excellent trajectory.”

Canada will now move into the classification round, where it will compete for a final placing between ninth and 16th. The Canadians will face Croatia on July 15 in China or July 14 at 9:30 p.m. ET.
