Canadian swimmers reach relay finals at Commonwealth Games

The final day of swimming competition at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow will see two Canadian teams competing in relay finals.

Kylie Masse, Sophie Angus, Julie Brosseau, and Madison Kryger won their women's 4x100m medley relay heat in four minutes 7.09 seconds on Wednesday at Tollcross International Swimming Centre.

On the men's side, Ben Winterborn, Oliver Dawson, Ben Loewen, and Lorne Wigginton finished their men's 4x100m medley relay heat in 3:39.82 to punch their ticket to the final.

Earlier in the session, three Canadian swimmers reached individual finals.

Angus advanced to the final of the women's 200m breaststroke with a time of 2:29.09.

Ella Jansen will race in the final of the women's 200m butterfly. The native of Burlington, Ont., qualified with a time of 2:12.32.

Para swimmer Sebastian Massabie will compete in the final of the men's 50m freestyle S7 after recording a time of 36.09 in the heats.

Montreal's Antoine Sauve (1:49.24) and Calgary's Wigginton (1:49.48) did not advance to the final of the men's 200m freestyle event.

In athletics competition at Scotstoun Stadium on Wednesday, Brendon Rodney will not be joining his relay teammate Aaron Brown in the semifinals of the men's 200m. Rodney was disqualified for a lane violation in his opening heat. Fellow Canadian Eliezer Adjibi did not start in the event.

Canadians Frederique Chiasson (23.15) and Marie-Eloise Leclair (23.50) advanced to the semifinals of the women's 200m.

Foster Malleck was the lone Canadian to reach the final of the men's one mile, finishing in 3:55.12. Malleck's Canadian teammates Max Davies (4:01.42) and Aaron Ahl (4:03.30) did not advance.
