Canadian gymnast Lia-Monica Fontaine wins vault gold at Commonwealth Games

Canada's Lia-Monica Fontaine, the 2025 world silver medallist on vault, captured Commonwealth Games gold on vault with a score of 14.000 in Glasgow on Monday.

It marks Fontaine's third medal, adding to her team silver and all-around bronze at these Games. England's Abigail Martin claimed silver with a score of 13.799, while Wales' Abigail Roper took bronze at 13.433.

Canada's René Cournoyer posted a score of 13.966 to capture the silver medal in the men's floor exercise final at the Commonwealth Games.

England's Luke Whitehouse claimed gold, while Australia's James Hardy earned bronze. Fellow Canadian Felix Dolci finished just off the podium in fourth place with a score of 13.233.

In her Commonwealth Games debut, Canada's 20-year-old Rebeka Groulx captured bronze in the women's 53kg weightlifting category. Groulx recorded successful lifts of 83kg in the snatch and 95kg in the clean and jerk, finishing with a combined total of 178kg. 

Nigeria's Onome Omolola Didih claimed gold with a Commonwealth Games record total of 206kg, while India's Gyaneshwari Yadav earned the silver medal, with a total of 199kg.

Some of Canada's top track and field athletes were in action as athletics competition got underway at Scotstoun Stadium.

Reigning world, Olympic, and Commonwealth Games champion Camryn Rogers breezed through qualification in the women's hammer throw with a throw of 68.81 metres, tops among all qualifiers.

Fellow Canadians Jinaye Shomachuk (64.84) and Jillian Weir (63.84) will join Rogers in Tuesday's final.
