Canadian beach volleyballers Humana-Paredes, Wilkerson advance to semis at Elite16 tourney

Canada's Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson are into the semifinals at the Elite16 beach volleyball tournament in Ostrava, Czech Republic.

The Olympic-bound Canadian duo beat Italy's Marta Menegatti and Valentina Gottardi in straight sets on Saturday (22-20, 21-12), setting up a matchup with Latvia.

They'll face Tina Graudina and Anastasija Samoilova on Sunday at 2:30 a.m. ET, streaming live on CBCSports.ca, the CBC Sports app and CBC Gem.

Humana-Paredes and Wilkerson, both from Toronto, each scored 12 attack points in the quarterfinal win. They entered the tournament ranked sixth in the world.

Top-ranked Brazilians Ana Patricia Silva Ramos and Eduarda Santos Lisboa will take on reigning world champions Kelly Cheng and Sara Hughes of the United States in the other women's semifinal.
