Canada's Will Dandjinou strikes gold at short track World Tour event in Poland

Canadian short track speed skaters continued to skate their way onto the World Tour podium on Saturday in Gdansk, Poland.

Will Dandjinou, of Sherbrooke, Que., won gold in the men's 1,500 metre final at the Hala Olivia Arena. The 24-year-old finished the race in two minutes, 24.153 seconds, ahead of Italians Thomas Nadalini (2:24.215) and Pietro Sighel (2:24.288), who took silver and bronze, respectively.

Steven Dubois, of Terrebonne, Que., finished sixth in the eight-skater final, crossing the line in 2:24.834.

It marks the fourth gold medal won by Dandjinou this season. After winning the men's overall title last season, he has collected 542 points from races this season and once again leads the race for the Crystal Globe.

Dandjinou has a 120 point lead over Sighel, his next-closest competitor, while fellow Canadian Dubois is in third place with 352 points.

Both Dandjinou and Dubois advanced the final of the men's 500m final which is set for later Saturday.

In the women's 1,000m final, Canada's Courtney Sarault took silver in 1:30.575. Hanna Desmet of Belgium won gold in 1:30.422, while American Corrine Stoddard skated to bronze in 1:30.589.

Fellow Canadian Florence Brunelle was fourth, crossing the line in 1:30.716.

Sarault leads the overall standings with 570 points, while Stoddard sits in second place with 480 points.
