Canada's Jones beats United States in women's curling at Beijing Games
BEIJING — Canada's Jennifer Jones defeated American Tabitha Peterson 7-6 in women's curling Wednesday morning at the Beijing Olympics.
The victory extended Jones's win streak to three games and improved her playoff chances at 4-3.
Canada started the day in a sixth-place tie with South Korea's EunJung Kim. The top four teams will make the playoffs.
Canada will play China's Yu Han in the evening draw and conclude round-robin play Thursday against Denmark's Madeleine Dupont.
Entering the men's draw in the afternoon, Canada's Brad Gushue was alone in third place at 5-3.
Gushue, who was idle Wednesday, was scheduled to close out round-robin play Thursday against Great Britain's Bruce Mouat.
