Canada's Hennessy, Jensen each earn silver at canoe sprint and Para canoe World Cup in Montreal

Canada's Brianna Hennessy and Sophia Jensen each paddled to silver on home waters Saturday at the canoe sprint and Para canoe World Cup in Montreal.

Hennessy, a Para canoeist from Ottawa, finished second in the women's KL1 200-metre kayak race with a time of one minute 00.37 seconds at the Olympic Basin in Parc Jean-Drapeau, 1.53 seconds behind reigning Paralympic and world champion Katherinne Wollermann of Chile.

Brazil's Adriana Azevedo finished third in the five-woman race.

It's the second World Cup medal of the season for the 41-year-old Hennessy, who took silver in the VL2 200m va'a canoe event at the opening stop in Brandenburg, Germany on May 19. She earned Paralympic silver in the same event at Paris 2024.

The 24-year-old Jensen, from Chelsea, Que., raced to a second-place finish later Saturday in the women's canoe single 500m event after clocking 2:11.98. China's Sun Mengya (2:10.67) captured gold and Italy's Olympia Della Diustina (2:13.76) took bronze.

Jensen also won silver in the event at the opening canoe sprint World Cup in Szeged, Hungary on May 9.

Three-time Olympic medallist Katie Vincent of Mississauga, Ont., was last among the field of nine in 2:41.06.

The canoe sprint and Para canoe world championships will be held from Aug. 26 to 30 in Poznan, Poland.
