Campbell Hatton wins by KO in clinical display on Anthony Joshua undercard

Campbell Hatton produced a clinical performance on the main card of Anthony Joshua vs Jermaine Franklin on Saturday night, beating Louis Fielding via a first round knockout.

Hatton had fought just three weeks ago, with a win against Michel Gonxhe in Liverpool. That was his last six round contest and he went the distance with a win against the Italian, despite how recent that fight was it was a big opportunity for Hatton to step up to eight rounds but he only needed a couple of minutes.

The fight was scheduled to take place over eight rounds, but with a clinical display, the 23-year-old floored Fielding with a body shot. Hatton has revealed his aspirations to fight for British Area titles in the next 18 months and can be expected to move onto such fights having beaten a man who was challenging for such honours a year ago.

Hatton will know how much further he will have to go in order to match the legendary achievements of his father, Ricky, but wins such as Saturday night's on the biggest stage will silence any who doubted this rising star of the Manchester boxing scene.

Speaking after the victory, Hatton said: “Everything can improve but the main thing is just taking my time and picking my shots. I’ve shown now what I can do when I box properly.

“It would’ve been nice to show everyone how fit I am but if you don’t need to, I’d happily take that every time. I didn’t think he was going to get up.”

Eddie Hearn added: “That was a great performance and a beautiful body shot. We threw him right in at the deep end and I’m really happy to see him progressing.

“It’s time to keep him developing, he’s a really good prospect.”
