Camogie Association to vote on Gaelic games amalgamation

The Camogie Association is set to take a vote on the amalgamation of the three Gaelic games bodies at its annual congress in April.

The GAA's own Congress will tomorrow vote on a motion to, 'to prioritise integration with the LGFA and the Camogie association.'

The move has received the strong backing of the players body, the Gaelic Players Association (GPA).

The Camogie Association said in a statement: "As our members know, the Camogie Association has been working collaboratively with the GAA and LGFA over many years towards the achievement of full integration of the Gaelic games associations.

"We therefore welcome all support for this process that we receive.

"We in the Camogie Association wish the GAA the best with their Annual Congress this weekend. As this is a GAA Congress, the Camogie Association does not have speaking or voting rights. However, at our own Congress on 1st and 2nd April, we will present a motion that will enable our members to reaffirm their ongoing commitment and support for integration."

The wording of the association is as follows:

I. Organisational and governance structures reflect an integrated Gaelic Games Organisation.

II. Gender equity and its delivery is recognised as a core value of the Gaelic Games family, promoting it across stakeholders, Government and citizens.

III. There is equitable access to full participation in Gaelic Games across all units of the Organisation.

IV. The promotion of our Gaelic Games is strengthened on an equitable, diverse, cross community basis.
