Camogie association targets 50,000 fans at All-Ireland final by 2026

The Camogie Association has set a goal of 50,000 spectators attending their senior All-Ireland final by 2026.

The Association today launched a three-year strategic plan for 2024-2027, which set key targets of:

The record attendance for a camogie final is the 33,154 who watched Wexford beat Cork 2007, but attendances have steadily risen over the last decade and 30,191 saw the Rebels defeat Waterford last year.

The Camogie Association celebrates 100 years since its founding in 2024 and though it is in integration talks with the Gaelic Athletic Association and Ladies Gaelic Football Association towards a proposed 2027 merger, president Hilda Breslin said: "While we work to define what the future of Gaelic Games looks like, it is imperative that we focus on the development of our sport to secure camogie's future, cement our place as a leading female field sport and celebrate camogie's unique place in Irish culture, heritage and history."

A baseline research study by the Sport Industry Research Centre at Sheffield Hallam University found that there is considerable scope to recruit more volunteers from the ranks of current players, as the current volunteer base depends in large part upon older men and women.

It found that barriers which prevent individuals from volunteering include the demands of work (82%) and demands of family (75%). Four in ten (46%) said their participation in other sports and activities is a barrier.
