Camogie Association announce 'Minimum Player Charter' proposal

The Camogie Association says it will put forward a new 'Minimum Player Charter' after "constructive" talks with the Gaelic Players Association and counties.

It follows a turbulent year which saw inter-county camogie and women's football panels announce in June that they would play the closing part of the 2023 season "under protest" amid frustration at the LGFA, Camogie Association and the GAA as well as a desire for discussions to develop a players' charter.

The players subsequently suspended their protest in July after securing commitments from the LGFA and Camogie Association on the development of a player charter for 2024, which would be backed by the GAA.

The Camogie Association now says that a 'Minimum Player Charter', which they will financially support, is to be proposed and finalised in January.

In a statement, the governing body said: "The Camogie Association can confirm that following discussions with the GPA and engagement with its counties, the Association has proposed a Minimum Player Charter. The proposed Charter will build on the current Government Inter County Support Scheme and will be financially supported by the Camogie Association.

"The significant investment by the Camogie Association will include enhanced contributions to team supports and player expenses. The details of the scheme will be finalised and confirmed in January, following further engagement with all parties."

Camogie Association president Hilda Breslin added that talks with the GPA and counties had been productive.
