Cammy Devlin craves Hearts Scottish Cup Final second date but Darvel dumping Dons has him playing it cool

Cammy Devlin is all for the romance of the cup after tuning in to see Darvel dump Aberdeen.

But the Hearts star is well aware there will be no love in the air for Robbie Neilson’s team if they suffer their own early Valentine's Day massacre at Hamilton Accies on Friday tonight. Aussie ace Devlin has fallen head over heels for the mad little world of Scottish football and its ability to throw up the unexpected.

He saw one such unlikely scenario play out last month when he sat down to watch the Dons’ take on the West of Scotland Premier League minnows. As much as the midfield terrier loved seeing the Ayrshire part-timers pull off one of the biggest shocks in Scottish Cup history, Devlin knows it can’t have been much fun for the Pittodrie side as they were soon forced into a bitter divorce from boss Jim Goodwin.

It’s unlikely even an Accies win would prompt a similar break-up between Neilson and his Tynecastle employers, not when the Hearts boss has the alluring prospect of another European adventure lined up for next season.

But Devlin doesn’t want to take any chances with the evening's dangerous liaisons at New Douglas Park. The Socceroos star said: “You hope it’s never you. We’ll go in to this game as favourites, as did Aberdeen when they went to Darvel.

“I watched that game and as much as you think I’d never want that to be us it was cool to see – because it wasn’t us! It wouldn’t have been cool if it was us! It was cool to see Darvel and what it meant to them. They are such a lower league team playing against Aberdeen who are a great side in the SPFL.
