Cameron Norrie outguns Tommy Paul to make Wimbledon quarters and keep British hopes alive

Cameron Norrie became the first British man to reach the Wimbledon quarter-finals since Andy Murray in 2017 - and then declared he wants to carry on emulating the double champion. The British No.1 played his first-ever fourth-round match in a Grand Slam like a veteran as he beat his mate American Tommy Paul 6-4 7-5 6-4. He never trailed and looked in total control - and is getting better in every match in his home Grand Slam.

And the high-class yet friendly encounter was in stark contrast to the antics on the same Court No.1 between Nick Kyrgios and Stefanos Tsitsipas the previous evening. Next up is world No.58 David Goffin for the chance to reach the semi-finals. (with Novak Djokovic a potential semi-final foe).

Murray, now 35, has reached 10 Wimbledon quarter-finals and won the title in 2013 and 2016. No.9 seed Norrie insisted: "I think Andy is still around!" But the 26-year-old added he is also ready to become a serial winner and role model. "For sure I would like to be doing this for the next 10 years," he said. "I'm feeling comfortable doing that, and really enjoying playing at this level.
