Cameron Carter Vickers on Rangers dinner as Celtic defender reveals 'awkward' USA summit with Tillman and Sands

Cameron Carter-Vickers insists he won’t make a meal about getting stuck into USA team mates Malik Tillman and James Sands.

The Celtic ace had an ‘awkward’ dinner with the Rangers pair when they met up with then America boss Gregg Berhalter for a bite to eat after the Hoops stuffed their rivals 4-0 earlier this season. Current US assistant boss BJ Callaghan is in Glasgow this weekend but Carter-Vickers is hoping be too busy celebrating Viaplay Cup success to meet his pals for supper.

The World Cup star said: “I think the assistant coach BJ Callaghan is over for the game but I’m not sure we will be able to catch up. I don’t know the moment. We met up with the manager at the time after a league game earlier in the season and it is always good to see the guys from the national team. We all have a meal and you could say it was a little bit awkward.

“But at the end of the day we are all professionals, we know how to behave and to put things aside for an hour or so when we have some food. We met up after the league match but it might be a bit different after a cup final though.

“To be honest, it’s not something I pay much attention to. It doesn’t matter who we are playing or who is in the other team. I try to have the same level of focus and try to perform.

“Is it the old thing about pals go out the window for 90 minutes? One hundred percent. I don’t even think too much about it as it’s all about my own performance and trying to help my team.”
