Cameron Carter Vickers in major Celtic injury sweat as he faces surgery call with Rangers cup clash looming

Treble-chasing Celtic fear Cameron Carter-Vickers might not see out the season.

The USA international has been playing through the pain barrier with a knee injury and has remained one of Ange Postecoglou ’s top performers. But the iron man defender could go under the knife after next weekend’s Scottish Cup semi-final showdown with Rangers in a bid to be fighting fit for the start of next season. The Hoops are 12 points clear in the title race and may even clinch the Premiership in the first game after the split.

With the league virtually in the bag, next weekend’s Old Firm blockbuster at Hampden could open the door to a fifth Parkhead treble in seven years. The United States national team revealed last month that Carter-Vickers had pulled out of their squad with a knee injury and the Parkhead medical team are monitoring the player before making a decision on his involvement over the rest of the campaign.

Carter-Vickers missed last Sunday’s win over Kilmarnock. However, he is in line to face Motherwell this weekend before the Rangers blockbuster on April 29.
