Cambuslang Rangers boss fumes over 'replay' call in abandoned cup tie

Cambuslang Rangers boss Paul McColl says the abandonment of their Scottish Junior Cup tie at Finnart was ‘a bit of a disaster’ and is urging common sense to be applied in giving them the tie.

Camby were leading 6-1 in the first-round tie at Greenfield Park with less than two minutes remaining, when a facial injury to one of the Finnart players caused it to be abandoned.

McColl says Finnart are talking about a replay at Somervell Park, but he’s having none of that.

He said: “I’d be lying if I said I know what happened to him, as in what facial injury he got, because I’m not 100 per cent sure.

“I know they class a facial injury as a head knock, but I class a ‘head knock’ as a head knock. You get hit on the head.

“Him and Carlos Lang ran past each other, banged into each other, so I didn’t see quite what happened, but it looked like an accident.

“We went on to score, and then the ref stopped it, they had a guy coming on, but we had played 88 and a half minutes, it was 6-1, and the game was done.

“They’re talking about a replay, but there was a minute to go, the game is done – D-O-N-E, done.

“The game was won, they should be giving us the game rather than playing it at our park.

“I’m contemplating saying ‘no’ if they want to replay it, because that’s highly embarrassing.

“I’m not going to say we’re definitely not going to replay it, but if it comes to it, I’m going to ask the players what they want to do.

“It was a bit of a disaster.

“We were 6-1 up, we’ve played well, scored some good goals, and it has been convincing.

“The referee’s hands are tied, because the rule now is 90 minutes rather than 75, but we need common sense here.”
