Calvin Ramsay making Liverpool impression as former Aberdeen star gets Joe Gomez 'excited'

Liverpool defender Joe Gomez says he's been impressed by Calvin Ramsay's attitude as the former Aberdeen kid adapts to life in Merseyside.

Ramsay swapped Aberdeen for Anfield earlier in the summer as the Dons netted a club record £4.5million fee that could rise to as much as £8m after add-ons. He was handed the No.22 shirt by Jurgen Klopp and is expected to play understudy to Trent Alexander-Arnold and rack up some minutes in the cup competitions this season.

An injury in pre-season stopped Ramsay from making an immediate impact and it's been Gomez who has had to cover at right-back when first-choice Alexander-Arnold has been rested. But while Ramsay is still waiting patiently for his senior debut for the Premier League title-chasers, Gomez says he's taken to the "down-to-earth" Scot - and can't wait to see him unleashed on the pitch.

He told the Liverpool website: “Calvin seems like a really down-to-earth lad. Obviously, we weren’t able to mix with him in training in pre-season, which was unfortunate, but hopefully he’s nearly there in overcoming that little issue and I think we’re all excited to see him play.

“He’s obviously a talented player, which is why he’s at this club, and from what he’s like around the place, he seems a nice, humble lad. We’re looking forward to seeing him getting involved on the pitch.”
