Paul Robinson recently talked to Football Insider about Newcastle United’s reported interest in Dominic Calvert-Lewin, saying the Magpies should avoid the Everton striker due to his injury problems and poor form this season.

Eddie Howe needed to bolster his attack over the summer after Newcastle were 12th in the Premier League for goals (44), but Robinson’s critique of Calvert-Lewin holds a lot of merit.

The 25-year-old has made 18 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring five goals with two assists. Calvert-Lewin spent most of the campaign out with a fractured toe and didn’t set the place alight when he was fit, so his stock has plummeted.

Callum Wilson has also endured an injury-hit campaign, making just 18 appearances due to a calf problem, but he scored eight goals for his troubles and grabbed a brace in the last game of the season to sign off on a positive note.

The 30-year-old will be a useful player to Howe if he starts the 2022/23 campaign fit, so is there a need for Calvert-Lewin?
