Calum Chambers sends four-word Aston Villa message after Arsenal exit

Calum Chambers could make his Aston Villa debut when Steven Gerrard's side return to Premier League action next week.

Villa host Leeds United after a two-and-a-half-week rest from action next Wednesday because of the top-flight winter break and the fourth round FA Cup fixtures this weekend.

Chambers joined Villa on a cut-price deal from Arsenal last month as his contract was set to run out at the Emirates in the summer.

Gerrard wanted to add a fourth centre-back to his squad after Manchester United loanee Axel Tuanzebe ended his third spell at the club and joined Italian side Napoli instead.

And Chambers, for his versatility and Premier League experience, was a standout candidate to fill the hole left by Tuanzebe. The 27-year-old can also operate in midfield and and in the full-back positions.

He has been training at Bodymoor Heath since signing for Villa last Thursday with his new team-mates.

Chambers also played his first game for the club in a pre-season friendly against Brentford on Tuesday and Gerrard's side won 2-1.

Back in training this morning and the defender posted on Instagram: "Putting the work in."
