Calum Bain third in heats of 50m freestyle

Calum Bain clocked 22.53 seconds to finish in third place in his 50m freestyle heat at the World Championships in Hungary.

Bain ended up 31st overall of the 90 competitors to take to the blocks at the Duna Arena in Budapest, but failed to advance to the semi-finals.

Daniel Wiffen, who claimed an eighth-place finish in the 800m freestyle final on Tuesday, provides Irish interest in the heats of the 1500m freestyle on Friday.

The 20-year-old from County Down is currently in the form of his life after recording his two best ever times in the shorter event earlier in the week.
