Caley Braves owner takes dig at town rivals Motherwell's 'Taylor Swift' plea
Lowland League club Caledonian Braves have poked fun at near-neighbours Motherwell’s bid for funding, and said football doesn’t need to be a “rich man’s plaything”.
The Fir Park club’s appeal for investment, which cheekily suggests pop megastar Taylor Swift should dig deep, similar to Hollywood hero Ryan Reynolds buying Wrexham, has received over two million views on social media.
Braves have issued a clip, with founder and owner Chris Ewing pointing out that ordinary fans can chip in to help them achieve a $750,000 goal [with over $250,500 raised].
The video shows Ewing talking and he says: “Football doesn’t necessarily need to be a rich man’s plaything, it can be for anyone.
“It’s good timing for this type of project. We’ve seen with Wrexham, they’ve got Ryan Reynolds as their owner.
“I’m no Ryan Reynolds, but this is what we’re trying to do, we’re trying to give football back to the fans.
“We’re trying to say you don’t need to be a millionaire to own a football club, you don’t need to be a movie star to buy into a club.
“This is a project that’s successful for most folk.”
Braves is rated at $2.25 million pre-money valuation, and says those who invest in Braves will £own a wee Scottish football club – for real”.
It also suggests that people can be part of building a globally-diverse ownership community in football, and “experience the highs and lows of football club ownership – Saturdays will never be the same”.
It also cheekily promises investors ‘plenty of haggis’.
