Caitlin Clark finally addresses transgender-athlete controversy, carefully avoids taking a side

Caitlin Clark finally faced a question about biological males who "identify" as girls or women competing in women’s sports.

She answered it without revealing much of anything.

Following the Indiana Fever’s 108-100 loss to the Minnesota Lynx on Sunday, Clark was asked about the controversy surrounding teammate Sophie Cunningham’s stance that biological males should not compete in women’s sports.

Clark said it wasn’t something the Fever discussed in their locker room.

"I think it’s for leagues and governing bodies to work with their athletes to find solutions," Clark said. "Our focus is on basketball. That’s what we talk about and how we can get wins and obviously we didn’t do that tonight. So, we need to find an area to improve in that way."

When a reporter pressed Clark for a reaction, she responded, "I just answered."

Well, not really.

Clark answered how the Fever were handling the controversy. She said it wasn’t discussed in the locker room, told leagues and governing bodies to figure it out and pivoted back to basketball.

Clark didn’t say whether she agrees with Cunningham that women’s sports should be reserved for females. She also didn’t side with Minnesota coach Cheryl Reeve, who wore a "Trans kids belong" shirt during Sunday’s game.

It sounded like a carefully crafted answer meant to avoid upsetting either side.
