Busy city centre street became a crime scene following early morning stabbing

A busy city centre street became a crime scene after a man was stabbed in the early hours of Sunday.

Detectives launched an investigation after the victim, in his 30s, was attacked on Withy Grove. His injuries are not thought to be serious or life-threatening and he's now recovering in hospital.

Withy Grove and part of Dantzic Street were taped off for several hours following the stabbing, which took place at about 6.30am. Yellow evidence markers could be seen in the road as forensics officers scoured the scene.

Police were also seen searching nearby Well Street, with more evidence markers seen around a bin down the side of a chip shop. Drivers were urged to avoid the area while the investigation was ongoing and there was some disruption to public transport, although nearby Shudehill Interchange remained open.

Withy Grove reopened at about 2pm.

Speaking earlier a GMP spokesperson said: "Officers were called to a report of a stabbing on Withy Grove, Manchester, at around 6.45am today. Emergency services attended and a man in his 30s was found with injuries and taken to hospital.

"His injuries are not thought to be serious or life threatening. A cordon is in place whilst an investigation continues and lines of enquiry are followed up."

Anyone with information is asked to report it online at gmp.police.uk or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
