Bury Old Road serious incident LIVE updates

Police have taped off a busy Greater Manchester road as emergency services respond to an incident. Bury Old Road is closed in both directions in Whitefield, near to the border with Prestwich.

The road was closed shortly before 8am today (July 24). A section of around 150 yards has been cordoned off, near to the Welcome Inn and the Coach and Horses.

Traffic is being diverted away from the scene. The Manchester Evening News understands emergency services were called out following concerns for the welfare of an elderly man.

Greater Manchester Police and North West Ambulance Service are both in attendance. It's understood that the incident could be a medical episode, but police are yet to determine the full circumstances.

Two police cars are among the response. A bus has also been seen inside the cordon, according to eyewitnesses.

It's not known how long the road closure will remain in place. Emergency services have been approached for further details.

Bury Old Road is now back open.
