Burnley fans must give new look Clarets time and trust

I remember on my first column here on this season I called for patience as I was worried that some fans may get a little restless if we got off to a poor start.

Since then we have collected four points from a possible nine against two of last seasons top six and a fellow relegated side, while at the same time dominating the ball in all three games while learning a completely new style of play. It’s been an okay start, certainly not a bad one.

There are plenty of positive signs there. The players look to have gelled relatively well considering there's practically a new squad and that cohesion will only get better.

We definitely need to be a little better with the ball, especially in the final third, but that will come as the players play together more and become faster in possession. I still feel we need a striker although the return of Jay Rodriguez could help, as Ashley Barnes hasn’t had the start to the season we all wanted him too.

As you’re all aware we suffered our first defeat this weekend against Watford - at a place where not many sides will pick up three points this season. But the reaction to that defeat on social media was nothing short of ridiculous - there was definitely no patience from some of the fans that we need.

It’s such a contrast in style from our previous regime that there’s going to be hiccups and some turbulence along the way. If we looked completely devoid of ideas and couldn’t get our foot on the ball, or lacked an identity then I’d be worried, but we don’t. I feel like we will batter a side soon, once it all clicks and we manage to dominate the game for a full 90 rather than just in patches as we have done
