Burnley complete transfer of former Celtic midfielder as Clarets bolster Academy ranks

Burnley have signed promising teenager Frankie Deane following his release from Scottish champions Celtic.

The 17-year-old was out of contract at Celtic Park and has signed at Turf Moor having spent time training with the Clarets. He featured in the Under-18s friendly clash with Padiham last week and will join up with Tony Philliskirk's side this season.

Deane turned our for Celtic B, who play in the Lowland League, last season and will hope in time to force his way into the first team reckoning at Turf Moor. The midfielder is expected to play for the Clarets youngsters at Barnoldswick Town tonight as they continue their pre-season preparations.

His proud family posted on social media confirming his arrival at Burnley as a scholar. Deane arrives with international experience having been called up to represent the Republic of Ireland at youth level.

Burnley's game at Barlick tonight is a 7pm kick off with the Clarets, who lost 2-1 to Padiham last time out, building towards their new season.

Tickets at the Silentnight Stadium cost £5 for adults, £3 for concessions, £1 for under 16s and under 12s are free.
