Bungling VAR team finally find ally over Rangers penalty snub as Gabby Agbonlahor offers Celtic controversy soft touch

Baffled Gabby Agbonlahor reckons that snubbing Rangers penalty claim WAS a "tough one" for the VAR team during the Premier Sports Cup final defeat to Celtic.

Liam Scales pulled down Vaclav Cerny on the edge of the box in injury time at Hampden with referee John Beaton awarding a free-kick to the Light Blues. Alan Muir and Frank Connor in the VAR room would back up the man in the middle despite it appearing that Cerny's foot was on line - indicating a spot-kick should have been awarded.

Rangers boss Philippe Clement was fuming following the full-time whistle with incoming CEO Patrick Stewart demanding answers from the SFA following the controversial call. Amid the storm, SFA chief executive Ian Maxwell would then respond to the furious response emerging from Ibrox by admitting some "decisions will be wrong" due to human nature with Head of Referee Operations Willie Collum holding talks with Rangers on Wednesday.

Agbonlahor said: “It looked right on the line. His body looked to be on the left-hand side of the line but the shirt pull was on the line.

“It was a tough one, wasn’t it? Great game though, amazing. It was so end-to-end. That’s what you want to see as a neutral, Rangers and Celtic going head-to-head.”
