Bulls dominate Griquas for easy win in Kimberley

A solid all-round display by the Bulls set up a vital 40-20 win over the Griquas in Kimberley on Saturday as the Pretoria franchise look to claw their way up the Currie Cup table.

The Bulls took a 19-3 lead into half-time thanks to first-half tries by Embrose Papier, Johan Grobbelaar, and Elrigh Louw, with Chris Smith kicking two conversions.

Griquas' points came from a solitary Lubabalo Dobela penalty.

The Bulls added further tries in the second half from Grobbelaar, Marco Jansen van Vuren, and Simphiwe Matanzima, while Griquas scored three of their own thanks to Johan Mulder, Jay-Cee Nel and Stephan Smit.

The win means the Bulls remain in seventh position, but they are now just one point behind Griquas and five points off fourth place.

After the round-robin stage, the top four teams will contest the Currie Cup's knock-out section.

The Bulls are next in action against the Lions on 20 May, while Griquas face the Griffons.
