Bulls appoint Phiwe Nomlomo as head coach for Currie Cup season

The Bulls have appointed Phiwe Nomlomo as head coach for their Currie Cup campaign, which starts next month.

The Selborne College alumni joined the Bulls from Durban outfit the Sharks in 2023 as the joint head of the skills hub at Loftus and previously also had stints with the 2019 SA Schools A side, the Border Craven Week squad, and his former school's first team between 2018 and 2019.

He was also the head of the EP Kings academy in 2016.

Nomlomo, who was one of the assistant coaches to Jake White during the franchise's United Rugby Championship campaign, will work alongside Werner Kruger, Jean Tiedt and Kennedy Tsimba with the Currie Cup side.

They get down to the business of tweaking their URC team, which lost the final for a second time, for the domestic competition, which starts on 7 July.

Recent signings such as Springbok winger Aphiwe Dyantyi and Stormers flanker Nama Xaba are set to make their Bulls debuts in the Currie Cup season.

Former flyhalf at Loftus, Tsimba will look after the backline, while former coach at North-West University, Tiedt, will focus on the defence.

Kruger, who made more than a century of Super Rugby appearances for the franchise in his playing days, will be looking after the forwards department.

The Bulls open their Currie Cup campaign with an away game at the Western Province in Cape Town on Sunday, 7 July (15:00).
