BT, EE and Plusnet customers to see bills rise this week - how much more you'll pay

Mobile and broadband customers across the UK will see their bills rise as soon as the end of this week.

Usually, companies increase contract prices in spring by either the Consumer Price Index (CPI) or the Retail Price Index (RPI) plus an extra 3 per cent, 3.7 per cent or 3.9 per cent.

Most of these calculations are based on December's inflation figures, which for 2023 stood at 4 per cent, meaning some companies will be hiking prices by as much as nearly 8 per cent.

EE, BT and Plusnet will implement price hikes from March 31, while the rest of the big firms will raise prices from the start of April.

Uswitch calculated that customers could see their yearly costs go up by around £27.19 for broadband and £24.23 for mobile bills on average. However, not everyone will be hit by these mid-contract price hikes, so it's important to check how your provider will apply the increases and by how much.

Ofcom is also currently looking into whether inflation-linked, mid-contract price rises should be allowed to continue following campaigning from money saving expert Martin Lewis among others. However, any decision will come after the next price hikes.

Here's a breakdown of how EE, BT and Plusnet will increase their prices by the end of March.

BT has confirmed it will use the CPI rate plus 3.9 per cent for its price hikes on March 31. However, it highlighted that from 'early summer 2024', it will implement a new pricing model while steering away from inflation-based hikes.
