Bryan Mbeumo gets Brentford transfer approval as Man United deal nears
Bryan Mbeumo is reportedly close to completing a move to Manchester United, and his Brentford teammate Yoane Wissa has already made his feelings clear.
The Manchester Evening News understands that United are close to securing the signing of the Brentford attacker after submitting an improved bid exceeding £60 million. Their initial £55m offer was rejected, but the 25-year-old is now expected to join.
The Standard has also reported that Brentford are trying to receive slightly more than the £62.5m that United paid for Matheus Cunha. The two clubs are reportedly in talks over the structure and terms of the add-ons in Mbeumo’s move.
Brentford are seeking over £7m in add-ons to ensure the total fee surpasses what Wolves received for Cunha. It’s understood the Bees are aiming for a final figure of around £63m.
In May, former manager Thomas Frank warned that his sale would need to be for a substantial fee. "It is clear that if he is to be sold, it must be for a nice, nice amount," Frank said.
"It is a lot. Mucho. Really a lot. Then it is clear that it is impossible to replace him one for one. It cannot be done. There is a reason why he costs x number of million pounds, and we do not have x number of million pounds to buy for."
Taking to Instagram on Thursday, June 26, Fabrizio Romano shared an update on the current state of play, writing: "Manchester United are now confident to get Mbeumo deal done after progress. Negotiations underway after the new bid in excess of £60m… and agreement now close also with Brentford.
"Bryan Mbeumo already agreed personal terms weeks ago, he’s pushing for his dream move to Man United."
