Bryan Glazer breaks cover at FA Cup final as Manchester United takeover saga drags on

Manchester United non-executive director Bryan Glazer has been spotted at Wembley ahead of the FA Cup final amid in the ongoing takeover of the club.

The Glazer family are in overall control of United but have put the club on sale and have invited interested parties to submit offers. It is said the Glazers value United at around the £6bn mark.

The family purchased United in 2005 with a takeover which cost nearly £800m and was reliant upon loans to make it a reality. The family has been a rare sight at Old Trafford and are unpopular with the United fanbase owing to the level of debt they have saddled the club with and money taken out as a result to pay back interest, with some supporters establishing a breakaway club in the form of FC United of Manchester.

Two leading bids have been submitted to buy United. Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al Thani of Qatar is said to have bid around £5.5bn for the club, which would seal overall control of United, clear all of the club's debt and includes a separate fund directed solely for the club and the surrounding community.

The second comes from Failsworth-born Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his INEOS company. This is understood to be a majority shareholding bid which would keep the Glazer family at United if accepted, but no longer in overall control and charge.

The Glazer family announced their intention to explore the possibility of selling United more than six months ago now in November 2022. Half a year on from that announcement, United remains in the family's control, with brothers Joel and Avram co-chairman.
