Brutal: Former Tottenham star hits out at recent N17 developments

Former Tottenham Hotspur striker Darren Bent has taken to Twitter to slam the north London club’s fans for celebrating some of their summer signings.

The Lilywhites have made an impressive start to the pre-season with six new faces now through the door with Djed Spence the latest to come through the doors in N17.

Spurs have now spent £115m this summer across those six signings despite two of those arrivals coming on a free transfer in Fraser Forster and Ivan Perisic.

Bent played 79 times for Spurs where he scored 25 goals across all competitions, however, his time in N17 is most remembered for the criticism from Harry Redknapp after missing a glaring chance at White Hart Lane.

Despite winning his only trophy at Spurs, Bent has hit out at the praise coming from the Spurs fans regarding those two signings, in particular, as he hit out at a Tottenham fan on Twitter: “You signed Perisic and Forster and threw an open top parade,” he tweeted.

TIF Thoughts on Bent’s comments…

This does seem incredibly petty from Bent. For a start, Spurs were in need of a second-choice goalkeeper and bringing in a Premier League-proven figure who also adds to the homegrown quota feels like a smart addition to us.

And the addition of Perisic, we feel, is a huge upgrade to Antonio Conte’s squad with the Croatian arriving at Spurs on the back of a seriously impressive campaign with Inter Milan.

There will be debate over whether Spurs or Arsenal have the better window after the two were so closely matched last season, however, the proof is in the pudding and we think Conte will be delighted with his signings to date.
