Bruno Lage addresses £25m decision as Wolves player all but confirms transfer

Bruno Lage and Wolverhampton Wanderers’ hierarchy will ignore 'outside opinion' when deciding whether to sign Francisco Trincao from Barcelona.

Portugal international Trincao has endured a largely frustrating season at Molineux since becoming the first major signing of the Lage era. He was a regular in Wolves’ starting line-up before Christmas, but Trincao has only made six Premier League starts since the turn of the year.

Trincao didn’t feature at all in the 1-1 draw with Norwich City on Sunday to raise further doubts over whether Wolves will take up their £25million option to sign him permanently. Barcelona have also proposed a straight swap deal involving Adama Traore, who moved to the Camp Nou on loan in January.

Reports claim Trincao is keen to return to Portugal and join Sporting, where his former Braga manager Ruben Amorim is now in charge. But Wolves have first refusal on the 22-year-old and D-Day is looming.

"We need to discuss this and now is not the right moment,” said Lage. "We will wait until the end of the season to try and understand everything.

"He's not our player and has come on loan and we need to try to understand everything in the contract. It's not about outside opinion, it's about our opinion about what he did and how he's grown up during the season.”

Marcal has all but confirmed his Wolverhampton Wanderers exit and appears destined to return to Brazil with Botafogo.

Marcal’s contract at Molineux expires next month and the former Lyon defender is expected to leave the club. A return to Brazil is on the cards for Marcal, who has been in talks with Botafogo in recent months.
