Bruno Guimaraes is Liverpool transfer target as Reds 'make contact' with Newcastle over Brazilian

Liverpool have "made contact" with Newcastle over star man Bruno Guimaraes.

The Brazilian midfielder has been a revelation on Tyneside since making the switch from Lyon in January 2022. He's spearheaded a revival under Eddie Howe after helping steer the Magpies to safety, leading them to the Champions League after a fourth placed finish this term. He's become a firm fans' favourite and it appears the feeling is mutual, with the 25-year-old set to play a big part once again as the Toon take on the cream of the continent next term.

His impact in the North East hasn't gone unnoticed however, and Liverpool are the latest to take an interest. Jurgen Klopp has a midfield to rebuild after the departures of James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita and Arthur all departed. With Jordan Henderson now 32, the Anfield engine room is in need of an upgrade as well as simply bodies through the door.

Goal.com claim the Reds have made an enquiry as to Guimaraes availability. The answer is likely to be a negative one from their point of view. It's unlikely Guimaraes would be willing to give up Champions League football for a Europa League crack, while the wages Newcastle can afford to give him in any improved contract are likely to be too high for Liverpool to match, let alone beat.

barcelona have also been linked. But Los Cules' financial problems are well documented and it's hard to see how they can structure any sort of deal that would tempt Newcastle into considering a sale.
