Bruno Fernandes reveals his favourite Manchester United memory ahead of Leeds fixture

Bruno Fernandes ranks Manchester United's 5-1 win over Leeds United on the opening day of this season as is his fondest memory since joining the club.

The Portuguese star, who will be hoping to help his country reach the finals of the 2022 World Cup when they participate in the play-offs next month, netted a hat-trick to help the Reds make the perfect start to the campaign back in August.

It was an outstanding display from the former Sporting Lisbon man and one that ensured United topped the table on the opening day.

Unsurprisingly, it is that victory over the Whites that ranks highest on Fernandes' list of special memories since sealing a move to Old Trafford in January 2020.

Fernandes told United's club website: "My favourite match is the Leeds [one] because I scored the hat-trick.

"We won, it was a great game, a great atmosphere and a fantastic start to the season so probably that one."

United, of course, will be hoping to complete a famous double over their rivals from West Yorkshire when they go head-to-head at Elland Road on Sunday afternoon.

The highly-anticipated showdown will mark United's first visit to Elland Road for a Premier League fixture with supporters present since October 2003, with last season's clashes played behind closed doors due to Covid-19 restrictions being in place.

With that in mind, Fernandes is relishing the prospect of experiencing a packed-out Elland Road for the first time.

He said: "Last season, without fans, people were telling me about that. My team-mates were saying that this is a tough place to be as a Manchester United player but I like that kind of atmosphere.

"I like when everything is against you because it makes you give a little bit more and be a little bit better.
