Bruno Fernandes apologises to Manchester United fans after defeat vs Liverpool in Premier League

Bruno Fernandes has admitted Manchester United fans 'deserve better'.

Liverpool beat United 4-0 on Tuesday night with goals from Luis Diaz, Sadio Mane and two from Mohamed Salah. United had just one shot throughout the whole match and that came from a tame effort from Jadon Sancho in the second half.

United failed to trouble Liverpool and they looked inferior in all areas. United have endured a miserable campaign and Tuesday night's heavy defeat served as a fresh, painful reminder of how far the club is away from competing for major honours.

United's away support emptied towards the end of the match but hundreds of fans remained after the final whistle.

Fernandes was asked about United's travelling contingent and he admitted they 'deserve better'.

"It is a bad result once again, there's not much that I can say," Fernandes told Sky Sports.

"I apologise to the fans. That will never be enough. It is what we can do now. They do not deserve us playing in this way, they deserve much more from us. The way they support us to the end, the way they stay after the whistle to applaud us.

"They deserve much more from us and we know we need to raise the standard, much higher. It is what it is."
