Bruno Fernandes makes trophies declaration after Man Utd return to winning ways

Bruno Fernandes declared he is more concerned about winning trophies at Manchester United than reaching individual landmarks as he opened up on their disappointing season.

The 27-year-old proved to be pivotal as the Red Devils finished second in the Premier League during the 2020/21 campaign, 12 points behind champions Manchester City. Fernandes scored 28 goals and grabbed 17 assists in 58 appearances across all competitions.

However, his form has dropped off this season and he has only directly contributed to 24 goals. United have also struggled for form and consistency and are set to miss out on Champions League football.

Ralf Rangnick's side sit sixth in the table, five points behind fourth-placed Arsenal. However, the Red Devils have played two more matches and could be out of the race altogether if Mikel Arteta's men pick up two more points from their remaining four games. Tottenham are also chasing the Gunners for that final spot.

The Red Devils will be hoping for a much-improved season when Erik ten Hag takes over in the summer. He is set to replace interim boss Rangnick, who will move into a consultancy role while also managing Austria.

There is expected to be plenty of change at Old Trafford with Edinson Cavani, Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba and Juan Mata all set to depart when their contracts expire, while a number of other players' futures are firmly in doubt. Marcus Rashford, Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka impressed last season but have failed to reach the same heights since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer left.

Despite scoring his 10th Premier League goal of the season in United's 3-1 win over Brentford on Monday, Fernandes has admitted he would rather win silverware rather than reach impeccable numbers.
