Broos aware of Bafana's poor finishing but not eager to 'talk too much about it'

Something's got to give, or at least this is what Hugo Broos would hope for from his Bafana Bafana charges.

South Africa took a staggering 19 shots at goal against Guinea on Friday in an international friendly encounter.

However, only seven of those shots were on target, with none going over the goalline.

For years it has been an issue for the national senior team, and it has continued under Broos' stewardship as he leads Bafana in their first matches in Europe in a decade.

"We know that South Africa does not really have a top scorer who needs only one chance to score," he said.

"It's something that has to do with confidence. The day we start scoring, that problem will be solved.

"It's difficult to fix the problem of not converting chances. It's up to the players. As a coach, you can only give them confidence, especially the strikers.

"You mustn't talk too much about it because it's already in their heads that they didn't score."

Before the goalless draw against Guinea, Broos mentioned that he was focusing on the performance instead of the result, and he believes his Bafana charges did just that but failed to score on the night.

"We had a good performance. I saw a good game and a good mentality. The only negative of that game is that we didn't score. We had six, seven good chances," Broos expressed.

"We have to score at least two if we have six, seven chances. It was a friendly game, but it didn't show because the mentality of our players was good."

Bafana will come up against France on Tuesday evening (21:15), and Broos reiterated that he intended to make changes to the starting XI.
