Bristol City transfer revelation emerges

Championship side Bristol City are set to have a “quiet summer” despite manager Nigel Pearson’s desire for a shake-up at Ashton Gate, according to a report from Bristol World.

The Robins have endured a reasonably disappointing 2021/22 campaign, failing to gain any form of consistency for much of the campaign and currently hold the third-worst defensive record in the second tier at this stage.

Their goalscoring record is nothing to write home about either, though one major positive to emerge from this season is Andreas Weimann who has registered 19 goals and nine assists in 41 league matches this term, with the hierarchy’s decision to hand him a new contract proving to be a shrewd one.

Sitting on the sidelines for most of last season due to an anterior crucial ligament injury, it was unclear whether Pearson’s men would be prepared to offer him fresh terms, but their faith has paid dividends for a side that will either keep their main talisman for the foreseeable future or sell him on for a sizeable fee.

Three other bright players from this season to make their mark are young players Alex Scott, Han-Noah Massengo and Ayman Benarous, though it’s currently unclear whether all three will still be plying their trade for their current club next season.

Looking at the bigger picture though, the squad is arguably in need of a revamp after a disappointing season and this is something manager Pearson agrees with.

Potentially set for a conflict with the board, they are intending to have a much quieter transfer window than the 58-year-old may have expected, a blow to the former Leicester City boss who will be keen to put his stamp on things before the start of 2022/23.
