Bristol City’s best 5-a-side team using the current squad – Do you agree?

Excitement is building among Bristol City supporters for the 2022/23 season after some impressive summer arrivals and a positive end to the last campaign.

Despite finishing 17th in the Championship last term there is a feeling that things are moving in the right direction under Nigel Pearson.

He’s got some talent in his current squad and, with that in mind, we’ve put together what we believe is City’s best 5-a-side team using the current squad – let us know if you agree.

A tough call between the sticks and Max O’Leary is actually unfortunate to miss out despite dropping back behind Dan Bentley in the pecking order in the latter part of last season.

Bentley is a phenomenal shot-stopper and just the goalkeeper you’d want as the last line of defence but his distribution has been called into question in the past.

Even so, given he shouldn’t be asked to do anything too complicated with his feet beyond some short passing, we’ve gone for the senior man.

Tomas Kalas’ body-on-the-line defending would certainly be useful as would Timm Klose’s excellent reading of the game and Rob Atkinson’s ability to drive forward with the ball.

However, Kal Naismith’s all-around game and quality in possession – having started his career as a winger – means he is our pick.

We’ve opted for a two-man midfield that is packed full of energy to allow the City side to dominate the 5-a-side pitch.

On the back of the best season of his career, Andreas Weimann was an obvious pick and has operated in the centre of the park previously while Han-Noah Massengo offers tenacity in the tackle and excellent control in tight areas
