Brisbane flex AFLW muscle against Magpies

Brisbane coach Craig Starcevich hailed his hard-working forward line's ability to adapt to tough conditions as the reigning AFLW premiers produced a convincing 24-point victory over Collingwood.

After a goalless first quarter, the Lions took control with a strong wind at their backs in the second term and handed the Magpies another grim reality check at Maroochydore on Saturday.

Two-time All-Australian Emily Bates was best afield with 23 disposals and a goal in the 5.5 (35) to 1.5 (11) triumph.

Captain Breanna Koenen marshalled a dour defensive unit and Zimmorlei Farquharson kicked two critical goals before halftime.

It was Brisbane's third straight win in a difficult 12-day stretch of matches, improving their record to 3-1 for the season.

Starcevich was particularly impressed with his attacking set-up in blustery conditions that didn't allow either side to produce clean delivery for their forwards.

Dakota Davidson and Farquharson were constant threats inside 50m, combining to kick the Lions' three goals during the match-winning second-quarter burst.

Greta Bodey starred with 15 disposals, seven tackles and a goal.

"They were connected up to our midfield group really well, always in the contest, and were able to trap the ball and create something, even from a chaotic kick coming forward.

"We couldn't be more proud of them to adjust, learn and adapt their play in these conditions. We were super happy with them."

Collingwood's only goal of the game didn't come until the dying stages of the third quarter, when Eloise Chaston produced a clever snap from a tight angle.
