Brilliant Rangers fans left me teary eyed at the Seville carnival that was a privilege to witness - Barry Ferguson

Let me start by giving credit where it’s due.

Not to the Rangers players who left their heart and soul on the pitch in Seville or even to Giovanni van Bronckhorst for taking this team to within a penalty kick of the club’s greatest-ever moment.

We’ll get to all of that later.

But, first, it’s important we acknowledge the part Rangers supporters played in what was an unforgettable experience before, during and after Wednesday’s absolute epic of a Europa League Final.

I’ll be honest, there was a part of me fearing the worst when we checked in on Wednesday. With more than 100,000 fans heading to one city there was always going to be the potential for bother.

But what I witnessed couldn’t have been further from that. I’m not kidding when I say I was absolutely blown away by the atmosphere they created.

There was a brilliant vibe about the place. The Rangers fans were mixing with the Frankfurt supporters, drinking together, taking selfies with one another, hugging and dancing and creating a real carnival atmosphere. It was an absolute privilege to be a part of it. And I mean it from the bottom of my heart when I say I was so proud to be one of them.

I was there with my boys, my nephews and my pals and when I got into the stadium I FaceTimed my missus to tell her how amazing the whole thing was. I’m not ashamed to admit I had a tear in my eye because the sense of togetherness made me thrilled to be a Rangers fan. I looked around at them and I thought to myself, ‘Yes, this is what it’s all about!’.
