Bright Osayi-Samuel U-13 tourney kicks off tomorrow

The maiden edition of the Bright Osayi Samuel U-13 football tournament kicks off tomorrow, with matches across the three senatorial districts of Edo State, the organizers have said.

The competition, organised by the Edo State Football Association, in honour of Turkey-based Super Eagles star, Bright Osayi-Samuel, will hold at Public Field, Auchi for teams in Edo North; Eguare Primary School, Ekpoma,  for teams in Edo Central, and Crescent Sports Centre, Irhiri, in Benin City, for  Edo South teams.

According to fixtures released by the organisers at the weekend, Elite Stars FC and Shooting Arrow FC will open the competition by 9.00 a.m. in Benin City tomorrow, with Edo Young Stars meeting Shavik FC by 10.00 a.m. The third match of the day will feature Bright Wave FC against Dynamic Stars by 11.00 a.m., just as Freedom FC will take on Royal FA by noon to round off matches for Day One of the tournament.

Speaking at the event, the Edo State Football Association chairman, Fred Newton Erhunmwunse, promised that the association would deliver a well-organised tournament while seeking the cooperation of the participating teams.

“I want to thank our brother Bright Osayi-Samuel for this golden opportunity given to the kids in Edo State to showcase their talents where future Osayi-Samuels will be discovered. On our part, we shall deliver as promised during the draws ceremony of the tournament, but we ask for the cooperation of the participating teams, especially the coaches, and managers, please let’s play by the rules,” Erhunmwunse appealed.

The FA boss said all logistics have been put in place for a successful tourney, describing the tournament as a wonderful platform for talent discovery.
