Brierley backing for brilliant Morgan Escare: We have a great relationship

Morgan Escare has been backed as one of Salford’s unsung heroes by the man who normally keeps the Frenchman out of the side.

Ryan Brierley’s hamstring injury allowed Escare the chance to start for the Red Devils in Friday night’s Super League win over Castleford, with the full-back producing another assured and impressive display.

Brierley had suffered a tight hamstring during the week; and failed a pre-match fitness test having fully expected to be fit to play. He hopes to be available when Salford return to action after the break for next weekend’s Challenge Cup final.

And Scotland international Brierley has been full of praise for the way Escare has performed when called upon.

“He’s been great and people ask a lot if we get on, and me and Morgan have a great relationship,” said Brierley, who has been chosen ahead of Escare this season by Salford head coach Paul Rowley.

“Ultimately the style that Paul Rowley plays is a very expansive style which suits both of us. Probably I have the edge as I’ve worked with Rowls before and understand his plays a little bit better; but anytime Morgan has been in he’s been great.”

Brierley’s own form has meant Escare’s opportunities have been limited this season at the AJ Bell Stadium. The 30-year-old Frenchman has even found himself on loan this year at both Wakefield and Championship surprise package Barrow Raiders.

But Brierley expects Escare to prove his worth at Salford over the next few months as they bid to mount a push for the play-offs.

He added: “I think there will be games that will suit Morgan better and vice versa. I think he has a big part to play this season.
