Brian Gartland departs from Dundalk after a decade

Brian Gartland's lengthy association with Dundalk has come to end, with the news that the head of football operations has left the club.

Gartland arrived from Portadown in the summer of 2013 and went on to make over 250 appearances as a player, winning 16 major honours with the Lilywhites, including five league titles.

Following his retirement from the game, he was appointed to the role of head of football operations in January 2023.

Gartland and Liam Burns briefly managed the team in a caretaker capacity when Stephen O'Donnell was sacked last month before Noel King's appointment.

Dundalk find themselves at a dismal nadir at present. Languishing six points adrift of Drogheda United at the bottom of the table, this is the worst start to a campaign in the club's storied history.

Addressing Gartland's departure, Dundalk owner Brian Ainscough said: "Brian will always be a legendary figure at Oriel Park and the decision to part ways wasn't easy.

"I would like to thank him for his commitment and dedication to the club over the past 11 years and we wish him the very best of luck in the future."
